I recently readmacfan77.blogspot.com concerning a Book Challenge.
50 books in a year?!?
I commented with *shaking my head* because seriously...I read or can read 50 books in a few months or less. In a year..I probably read at least 300 books...
In school I used to get into trouble because I'd read ahead. I'd be caught reading my library books or even my Moms romances.
I read and understand and can tell you what's happening.
Recently I found book by Cornelia Funke in the Youth section of Chapters. Inkheart. Yes, I was in the Youth Section. *shrug* What can I say. Anyways...the cover looked really cool and I picked it up and read a few pages ...I read the back of the book:
Meggie lives a quiet life alone with her father, a bookbinder. But her father has a deep secret -- he possesses an extraordinary magical power. One cruel night, as Meggie's father reads a book called Inkheart aloud, an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, the two are plunged into the kind of adventure Meggie has only encountered in fiction, and they must somehow learn to harness the magic they were reading about to change the course of the story -- before it ruins their lives forever.
I knew that I would be using my gift certificates to purchase this book. It looks great! MyLuc came with me and now hasn't stopped withthe "you should be reading books your age" comments. The comments don't bother me as much as he thinks though...I read everything and anything.
So...I went to the bookstore in our Mall and found the 2nd book. Picked it up without a thought...knowing that I'd not be able to read it until I had the first. Yup...tortured myself. I order the 1st on and they told me it'd be a week or so until it came in. They called, I went in and it was a teeny tiny paperback. Now normally that wouldn't have bothered me but I had purchased the 2nd on in Hardcover so I really really wanted hardcover. I ordered again and they said 2 weeks...they'll call. *sigh*
I went to the bookstore downstairs at work and found Canadian Author Kelly Armstrong. There were two books...I checked to make sure that they were #1 and #2 in a witch series..the title escapes me at the moment. I got up to the counter and they recommended I read first her first books Bitten and Stolen of the werewolfe series. *sigh* They weren't in. I thought I'd give it a chance with the two I had. They rocked!
I went to the library to see if they had the first two. They did. Not too bad. I'd rather read about Vampires than Werewolves but not too bad.
So that's the mini version...I read a lot. I think I'm going to see if I can keep track. It'll be hard because I always have 2 books with me knowing I'll read at least one of them and have a backup.
How much do you read?

I thought I was a readerm reading several a week, but you sure have me beat. And you are right, there are many well-written young adult books. Perhaps if I just stayed with them, I could read a book a day! I loved when my boys finally starting bringing home books that interested me. One of the first was The Outsiders.
I loved the Outsiders...in school we had to watch the movie after we read the book...I preferred the book. Most made from book movies...I prefer the book. The only one that I didn't was The Journey of Natty Gann. That's still my alltime favourite.
I hate when I have to wait for the next book in a series I'm reading or when I come to the last book ... sigh! I read like you though ... 50 books in no time!
