Friday both MyLuc and I had it off. I did the cooking. We went to Superstore and bought a salmon fillet which I glazed with maple syrup and soy sauce. We ate it with rice and steamed broccoli. I even bought some sponge cakes and whipping cream to go with the strawberries for dessert. We didn't actually eat dessert tho' cuz we were full. Now if you knew me way back when you'd know I didn't like fish. Not at all. Growing up in the Kootenays I've tasted bear, moose, deer, squirrel, rabbit, grouse etc. Going fishing I'd be the one that got to drive the boat and then sit with a book while everyone else squished the worm on the hook and then just sat there waiting. I've lived in the Lower Mainland since August 1997 and only within the last 5 years have I developed a taste for sushi and seafood. It's kinda weird. When I tell my mom that we're going to take her out for sushi she says I don't eat any kind of raw meat...veggies only. Little does she know that she's in for a surprise.
We also rented some movies. I rented three for me because he wasn't off on Monday but o'course he wanted to watch one of them. He really wanted to see The Virgin Suicides. I'd seen it once and well, didn't really want to see it again, but we have a deal. We decide going in how many we'll rent. It's either 3, 6 or 9. Usually it's 6 so we don't have to decide on the 3rd one.
Saturday we did errands. We went to Walmart because I wanted some inexpensive shirts for work and play. They had nothing that I wanted and what they did have was thin and pastel.*shudder* MyLuc and I also stood for what seemed a really long time at the entertainment section picking through the DVD box. I bought the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I didn't look close enough tho'...it's full screen and we (aka MyLuc) don't do full screen. Across the way we went to Best Buy. I purchased a silver armour looking fitting for my Nano. It's awesome...screen shield and all. I also ended up purchasing movies...I didn't mean to really....but I had to. Home we went and vegged. I was cooking again and decided Greek was the theme for the meal. We had Greek Salad (o'course) and an awesome Spanakapita casserole that my friend's mom(?) emailed me. I also skillet fried some chicken and then made a sauce from what was in the skillet, lemon juice, chicken broth, spinach and tomatos. It was an awesome Adventure in Cooking.
Sunday we chilled. We didn't go anywhere until 2 when we began the drive to MyLuc's parents. It was a family dinner (Larry and Virginia, Matthew, Laura and Brian, Auntie Lorna and Cuz Nicole). After the meal about dessert MyLuc and I became very uncomfortable with a discussion Laura and Larry were having about the definition of racism. Now Larry is 54(?) and a Train Engineer. He's been there done that. Laura has been to school and works in the library. She's 19. The argument progressed to shouting and each trying to explain their point. It was horrid. In the car afterwards MyLuc asked me if that's what our friend felt when we argued. I told him I thought it was. So sorry to all of our friends who have been present when we've argued.
Monday I was supposed to go to Vancouver and pay my friend for the Sari she bought me for the SCA event and then meet another friend for lunch. I woke up, had a headache, didn't want to go. Called each of them and said so. I watched Barbershop and Barbershop 2 and Freaky Friday and read at least 3 books. It was awesome.
MyLuc came home about 4, I made perogies with sides of steamed broccoli and the last of the greek salad. We watched The Virgin Suicides. Bedtime was 10 and the four-day weekend was over.
I hope that you had a restful weekend.
*HUGE HUGS*
